FDA RALLY

If a drug is a approved today, how many people had to die waiting for
the FDA to act? This may be the question Abigail Burroughs's father
asked when his twenty-one year old daughter died of cancer. She had
been denied access to two drugs in testing with the Food and Drug
Administration. They were later approved.

Every year
pharmaceutical companies produce lifesaving drugs. They test these
drugs. Then the FDA gets involved. They provide rigorous, additional
testing. Nothing wrong with that, right? Wrong. The FDA prevents
patients, even those who are terminally ill, from accessing these drugs
until they have been fully tested, which can take years. On September
18th join Bureaucrashers at the FDA rally (5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD)in fighting against death by regulation.

Liberty Summer Seminar '07

It was great seeing all you guys at LSS! Much fun, as always. I especially enjoyed Ja$on & Tom's ongoing reenactment of McCartney & Michael Jackson's, "The Girl is Mine", though I still can't figure out who was who. (You'll have to let me in on that one, one day ;)

Xaq -- Good to finally meet the man behind the myth. If you remember what the hell we were talking about after the bottle of Jack was passed around, ...remind me ;) I know I owe you an email -- get that to you soon.

Erin - Now that I know you're such a dancin' machine, I'll have to remember to bring my rhythm with me next time! (I know it's around here...somewhere.)

Peter & Agata - As always, it made my year to see you again! My love to you both, even if that is illegal in most states & all the provinces.

As for everyone else I met this year (whose names I'm sure will return to me just as soon as I see your faces again in the pictures...and maybe your name tags too), it's always so energizing spending a beautiful weekend camping with so many active libertarians; without a statist for miles! (Or at least a couple hundred acres.) It keeps me fighting.

For those crashers who haven't been to a Liberty Summer Seminar yet, you've got to jump on the bus & get there next year! It's required.

;)

------------------
-- sh(A)ne --
Minister of Truth

The seventh annual Liberty Summer Seminar is fast approaching. Falling on the August 18-19 weekend, the overnight retreat features a concert, incredible food, great people, and a bevy of pro-liberty speakers. We even have a theme song!

This year's speakers include:
Benjamin Perrin, Assistant professor of law at the University of British Columbia and member of the editorial board of C2C: Canada's Journal of Ideas
Gerry Nicholls, columnist, Senior Fellow at the Democracy Institute
Karen Selick, lawyer and columnist with the Western Standard
Dr. Jan Narveson, professor of philosophy, University of Waterloo, Order of Canada recipient, lover of liberty.
Avril Allen, Canadian Constitution Foundation Lawyer

We are also very pleased to announce that our headline speaker will be none other than Marc Emery, referred to as the "Prince of Pot." Marc is the editor of Cannabis Culture magazine and a great freedom fighter who has long been dedicated to the fight to legalize marijuana - a fight that has recently landed him in a battle with the US government. To learn more about Marc and his current fight, take a look at this “60 Minutes" video.

Meanwhile, our Saturday night act will once again be the great freedom-lover, Canadian crasher and amazing musician, Lindy!

Make sure to register at LiberalStudies.ca before July 28th to save $10 on registration. The price is $55 for students and $75 for everyone else. After the 28th, it will be $65 and $85, respectively.

Please also consider helping our fund raising efforts by visiting our main site, or by clicking on the "ChipIn" button found on our main page.

Liberty Summer Seminar

We've been a little busy behind-the-scenes aiming for another breakthrough year with the Seminar. We have a few speakers already lined up, and are busy working on attracting more.

Last year, we had 65 attendees. 65!

That's a big number. Especially when you consider the fact that my mother fed all 65 without any background in feeding a small army, and without a single complaint. In fact, plenty of people cite the food as reason enough to spend the weekend.

But with speakers, 40 acres of trails, a swimming pond, a concert, a campfire, and the chance to sit down and really hash things out with people like Jan Narveson, Ezra Levant, Dr. Jacques Chaoulli, Pierre Lemieux, Tasha Kheiriddin, Claudia Hepburn, Mark Mullins, and so on (yup, they have all been attendees and speakers at the Seminar), it really is the not-to-be-missed liberty event of the year.

We could use your help and input. Got any ideas for incredible speakers, or events? Maybe you have that one brilliant idea that will push us to 100 attendees. Maybe you know Penn Gillette or P.J. O'Rourke, or Clint Eastwood. Or maybe Kurt Russell or Drew Carey are your neighbours in Muskoka.

Send us an email and share your pearls of wisdom, and your thoughts.

Are you in a position to support us financially? Do you have $50, $100, $1,000, or some other amount of money that you can send our way to help us cover our costs, sponsor a speaker, build our organization, and offer scholarships to students? $50 is enough to give one student the chance to attend the Seminar. $200 is enough for four!

Perhaps you have some old liberty books, trinkets, and baubles lying around? We can sell those, or give them away as prizes, at the Seminar. Just let us know.

And, of course, if you have a blog, and are willing to post a little advertisement, do let us know as well. This is probably the single best piece of new advertising we started last year. Our website was burdened with more hits than we knew what to do with just because of a banner ad on a blog just like yours.

Ohio LP Convention (Columbus, OH)

Your energetic and engaging discussion of Bureaucrash was both an entertaining and educational outline of the organization. The enthusiasm and exuberance that you expressed was rather infectious and compelling.

Liberty Summer Seminar (Orono, Ontario, Canada)

A great event as always. There were about 40 – 50 people there, all of whom were in attendance for Heather's presentation. We only signed up about 15 people, seeing as most of the people there signed up for membership last year. We found a new Canadian crasher-in-chief in SpikeyMike. We cemented a great relationship with the the band DJ Dad/MC Mom who will perform under the Bureaucrash banner at future events, including the IL LP convention in November.

CPAC '05 (Washington, DC)

The Conservative Political Action Conference was THE event of the year for Bureaucrash Contraband. The $1250 entrance fee was generously covered for us by a donor and we sold over triple that amount in contraband. We received a fantastic reception as the vast majority of young navy blazer-clad kids admitted to believing in limited government and had no problem agreeing to our statement of principles. They liked our approach of circumventing party lines and focusing on creative activism.

FSP Porcupine Festival Quotes

Lancaster, NH

It was good to see you again at the Free State Project fest. Your high energy speech seemed to get the audience revved. I heard a number of nice comments about your talk.

- Jim Bovard

In the afternoon, Heather Talley of Bureaucrash spoke. I recall her from the National LP convention in Atlanta, at which they staffed a booth. These are the movement's international Liberty Youth of style and substance… They make liberty seem avant-garde… What can you say about a group that actually has a t-shirt with a bust image of the professorial capitalist FA Hayek under which big capital letters announce BAD ASS!… Good stuff, check it out; I now have my Christmas list filled for my nephews and nieces.

- Brian Wright

I got to hear [Heather's] presentation for Bureaucrash, and I plan to heavily plug into their activist network in the upcoming year. I really think that they can help floundering libertarian activists to network with each other and so get more accomplished in their local area.

- Bill Walker

I was more than impressed by your presentation, and the things Bureaucrash has done. I'd like to invite you to appear on my radio program, which is on Monday through Friday from three to six pm. We have Rush Limbaugh as a lead-in, so the audience is fairly sizeable, with a potential of ninety-thousand on three stations in NH. You got a lot of people energized.

- Gard Goldsmith

Freedom Fest (Las Vegas, NV)

Crasher Puppetsturn and Heather met Ted Nugent, who was the keynote speaker. He was happy to hear about what we did and like the Communism Kills shirt we gave him so much he bought one for his son too. Nationally syndicated radio host Mark Larsen broadcasted live from the conference for a few days. He bought three shirts from us and claims to have plugged us repeatedly on the air.
